WiFi Mesh Bottles
The Wifi-Mesh Bottles are a private project by Tim Schumacher and myself. The aim was to enable live video transmission of a downhill race from the track in the forest to the valley station.
A WiFi mesh with battery-powered routers was configured and set up with the Freifunk firmware. Webcams were connected to the routers and gstreamer was added to the router firmware for the video stream. To protect the routers from the weather, they were placed in cut-open PET bottles to give them their characteristic appearance.
In the valley station, the streamed signal was received by two Raspberry Pi and output to two tube TVs via the existing analog output.
